Axle seal? Empty Axle seal?

Post by 99PreludeSh Wed 02 Mar 2011, 10:13 pm

So it was that time I needed to change my axle seal on the driver side. I buy the part straight from Honda, they get it in, I go to install and WHOOPS it's not the right one.

I go back up there with the bad axle seal and the one they gave me. They are like "Oh thats the passenger side here is the driver side axle seal for an SH." He pulls it out and it's still not the right one. I said "Ok let me see what a base axle seal looks like." Sure enough he brings it out and it's an exact match. He called another dealership and their part numbers matched too, so it wasn't his computer.

Now that transmission has NEVER been touched. I can't think of any other reason as to why I would have a base axle seal on an SH car....any thoughts?

Doesn't even match up with Majestic Honda.

Unless you've owned the car since day one, it's possible that a previous owner had an axle rebuilt by a shop that didn't care...

I've owned it since it has had 6,642 miles on it, so maybe. Who knows but it's very odd.
